Semaj is a Brooklyn, NY native. Currently, Semaj works as a full-time art educator and Football defensive coordinator. Semaj received a BS in psychology at Trinity College (CT) and a MFA from Lesley University (MA) in 2022 . Heavily inspired by the works of Gordon Parks, Deanna Lawson, Latoya Ruby Frazier, and Chi Modu, Semaj's photographs seek to provide a voice for everyday people who have been oppressed and ultimately discarded out of society’s forefront. Semaj's work has been featured in various galleries throughout the country. Recently, Semaj has been acknowledged as Top 25 to watch by Lenscratch and was selected as a Juror's Choice recipient by LensCulture.
